Hi Friends,
We don’t know about you, but lately we’ve been having fight-to-the-death arguments with our toddlers over popsicles. The very first words out of Fanny’s daughter’s mouth the other day at 6:15AM were “Can I have a popsicle?,” a query that was repeated no fewer than 537 times, in an escalatingly hysterical tone, before leaving for school. So, rather than endlessly rationalize (to a fundamentally irrational person) why “popsicles are not a meal” or “popsicles can only be consumed after lunch/dinner/nap” or “you cannot have a popsicle first thing in the morning,” we decided to give in and develop a popsicle recipe that could solve for this fundamentally ontological problem.
In the spirit of the upcoming holiday, we opted for a blue and red color palette—the two-tone vibe is festive and special-feeling which also helps to sell a kid who thrills to more artificial varieties of frozen treat on the merits of the homemade alternative.
This recipe is pretty endlessly riffable, depending on what fruit or add-ins you opt for, but this creamy blueberry and raspberry-strawberry smoothie combo has been a big hit with our kids. And boy is it nice to just say an unqualified “YES.” when your kid asks if they can have a popsicle for breakfast.
